Johannes Beer

Johannes Beer (born November 2, 1901 in Rehburg , † November 25, 1972 in Weilheim ) was a German literary scholar and librarian.

Life

Beer attended grammar school in Göttingen and then studied art history, German philology and literary studies, history and library studies in Göttingen and Leipzig. He received his doctorate in 1927 with the dissertation The Illustration of the Life of Jesus in the German Early Prints at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen . After the National Socialists came to power in 1933, Johannes Beer succeeded Adolf Waas as library director of the municipal public library in Frankfurt am Main . In 1937 Beer published a literary history from a folk perspective. Beer wrote book reports for the Reich Office for Popular Libraries . From 1953 to 1963 he was director of the Bochum City Library.

After the Second World War, Johannes Beer became co-editor of a comprehensive series of literary novels.
