The Hanover Spartans are an American football team from the Lower Saxony capital Hanover . In the meantime, the name had to be changed to Arminia Spartans due to license disputes. This name was retained until it was renamed Hannover Spartans in 2017. The Spartans are a division of SV Arminia Hannover .

history

The Hanover Spartans were founded in December 2006. The Spartans joined the league in 2007. The opening season 2007 ended with third place in the association league (5th division). The following season in 2008 could be ended by winning the championship, whereby the promotion to the league (4th league) was achieved. With the end of the 2009 season as the first in the Lower Saxony / Bremen league table, the Spartans had managed the feat of marching through from the sixth to the third division and thus on the gate to the GFL game operation.

The following regional league season turned out to be too big a step for the Spartans, who ended the 2010 season without a single win in the regular season, but with three wins in the relegation relegation. This last riot of the team could not prevent the direct relegation to the league. After relegation, the Spartans managed to get promoted back to the regional league by placing second in the Lower Saxony / Bremen Oberliga and increasing the 3rd division. The Spartans were able to establish themselves here in the years to come. They finished the seasons 2012 to 2016 in the middle of the table.

The year 2017 should be a sportingly disappointing one for the Spartans. With only three wins from twelve games, the team that started with ambitions for promotion was bottom of the table and only stayed in the third division due to a lucky constellation of GFL2 relegated teams and the intention to increase the regional league to eight teams. After this season, the Spartans had to say goodbye to long-time head coach Winston Huggins, who left office at his own request.

In the pre-season 2018, Willie James Robinson Jr., a GFL-experienced head coach, was hired to get the Spartans back on the road to success. This succeeded so that the Spartans could secure the championship of the Regionalliga Nord in the Fernduell against the Hamburg Pioneers . With this title, the team rose to the GFL2 North for the first time .

After a mixed season in 2019 with only 2 victories, the Hanover ended this on the penultimate place in the GFL2, which means that they have to relegate back to the regional league.
