Friedrich Samuel Hering , von Hering since 1864 (born September 27, 1794 in Marienwerder , † November 14, 1871 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and director of the military and economics department in the war ministry .

Life

Friedrich was the son of Friedrich August Hering (1762–1831) and his wife Friederike Marianne Karoline, née Müller (1773–1851). His father was a war and domain councilor in Marienwerder and later at the Chamber of Accounts in Potsdam .

Military career

Hering attended Marienwerder grammar school and on March 25, 1813, joined the hunter detachment of the Prussian Army's Leib-Infanterie-Regiment as a volunteer hunter . On May 31, 1813 he was promoted to second lieutenant in the Silesian Landwehr, before he was used again in the Leib-Infantry Regiment in mid-June 1813. During the Wars of Liberation , Hering fought near Großbeeren , Bautzen , on the Katzbach , Leipzig , Colditz, Königswartha, Siegersdorf, Bunzlau, Freyburg , Montmirail, Chateau-Thierry, Mery, Trilport, Wavre, St.Germain, Paris and Ligny and the transition near Wartenburg . For the blockade of Mainz he received the Order of St. George IV Class and for Chatillon the Iron Cross II Class.

After the war, Hering was promoted to captain and company commander until mid-May 1834 . With promotion to major , he became commander of the Landwehr battalion in the 40th Infantry Regiment on March 28, 1841 . From there he was transferred to the 26th Infantry Regiment as battalion commander on November 25, 1848 and promoted to lieutenant colonel in mid-November 1849 . On January 7, 1851, Hering was commissioned to lead the 24th Landwehr Regiment. This was followed by a position as commander of the 32nd Infantry Regiment from April 17, 1851 . In this position he was promoted to colonel on April 19, 1851. On May 10, 1855 he was appointed commander of the 8th Infantry Brigade and on July 10, 1855 à la suite of his previous regiment. There he was promoted to major general on July 12, 1855 . On July 3, 1858, Hering was transferred to the War Ministry in Berlin as director of the military and economics department. At the same time, he was also the President of the Higher Examination Commission for general managerial officials as well as a member of the board of directors of the Great Military Orphanage in Potsdam. He was promoted to Lieutenant General on May 31, 1859 and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle First Class with Oak Leaves on the occasion of King Wilhelm I's coronation celebrations on October 18, 1861 . On March 25, 1863, Hering received the Order of the Crown, Second Class, on the occasion of his 50th anniversary, and the Order of St. Anne on June 11, 1864 . He was finally put up for disposal on June 20, 1864 with a pension .

In recognition of his many years of service , King Wilhelm I elevated him to the hereditary Prussian nobility on June 20, 1864 . He died in Berlin on November 14, 1871.

Hering married Mathilde von Glaubitz (1798–1876), a daughter of General Johann Sigismund von Glaubitz , on May 29, 1823 in Münster . The following children were born from the marriage:
