The island of Hanover (sometimes also Hanover; Spanish Isla Hanover ) belongs to Chile and is located north of Tierra del Fuego in the Patagonian archipelago . It belongs to the Región de Magallanes y de la Antártica Chilena , has an area of 812 km² and reaches a height of 1158 m above sea level.
Jules Verne has his novel Two Years Vacation set on this island , in which a group of young people and children from Auckland are shipwrecked. The geographical descriptions given in the novel have little to do with the real island, apart from the rough location and approximate dimensions.
