Hanoverhill Starbuck

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hanoverhill Starbuck (born April 26, 1979 , † September 17, 1998 ) was a Canadian breeding bull .

The Holstein cattle Starbuck was born on the “Hanover Hill Holstein” breeding farm in Port Perry , Ontario , in Canada as the son of mother A Anacres Astronaut Ivanhoe and father Round Oak Rag Apple Elevation , and thus the great-grandson of Osborndale Ivanhoe . On November 26th of that year it went to the Center d'insemination artificial insemination de Québec (CIAQ, Center for Artificial Insemination of Québec). He later reached a weight of 1,173 kg with a height of 187 cm. His semen was of such high quality that 685,000 servings were removed for artificial insemination, which produced more than 200,000 female offspring. By then, he had raised over $ 25 million to the CIAQ from selling the seed.

On September 7, 2000, a calf was cloned from Starbucks cells at the CIAQ and was christened "Starbuck 2".

Hanoverhill Starbuck and his father Elevation had a great influence on Holstein breeding . In 2003, 93% of all Holstein cattle born in Canada were descendants of Starbuck. His breeding influence is also great in Europe. In 1999 65.8% of the German Holstein breeding bulls were descendants of Starbuck. In other European countries, too, the proportion of his offspring was well over 30% at this time.
