Hans-Christian Schöttler

Hans-Christian Schöttler (born September 14, 1925 - † January 26, 2012 ) was a German basketball official and sports journalist .

Life

Schöttler was a member of the SSV Hagen , in 1950 the later President of the German Basketball Federation (DBB), Hans-Joachim Höfig , came across the SSV through his mediation . Schöttler worked for the bicycle chain manufacturer Ruberg und Renner as an organizer of cycling events, and he was also a freelance sports reporter. He was also the organizer of motocross races in the 1950s, and in the 1950s and 1960s Schöttler also worked as a functionary for the Westphalian Football Association.

As a basketball official, he was involved with SSV Hagen, the Hagen district association and the West German basketball association (among other things as a press attendant). On November 1, 1969, he took over the full-time position of Secretary General of the German Basketball Federation, previously he had already worked on the establishment of the Basketball Bundesliga in 1966. As DBB delegate, Schöttler represented German basketball at FIBA meetings ; in 1976 he was elected to the Finance Committee and in 1980 to the Legal Committee of the World Basketball Association. As the editor in charge, he was primarily responsible for the creation of the book “Fascination Basketball”; the DBB published the work in 1991 for the 100th anniversary of the invention of the sport. He was Secretary General of the German Basketball Federation until 1983 and then worked as a freelance sports journalist in the marketing area as Managing Director of Sport Marketing Dortmund GmbH, then until 1991 at B + W Sport Marketing GmbH in Bottrop. In addition to basketball, cycling was his specialty as a journalist. The work was also mainly written by Schöttler on the 50th anniversary of the founding of the German Basketball Federation.

In 2008 he was honored by the West German Basketball Association for his "extraordinary commitment".
