Hans-Dieter Dörbaum (born June 29, 1945 in Mühlhausen / Thuringia ) is a German politician and was first mayor from 1990 to 2012 and later mayor of the city of Mühlhausen / Thuringia.

Life

Hans-Dieter Dörbaum grew up in Bischofferode . After training at the Glückauf Sondershausen potash plant , he studied at the Erfurt / Mühlhausen University of Education and worked as a polytechnic teacher.

As part of the political change he was elected mayor (since 1994 mayor) of his hometown Mühlhausen / Thuringia in 1990. In 1990 he was a member and candidate of the CDU . In the first re-election he ran (non-party) for the SPD and in subsequent re-elections as an independent candidate. After 22 years in office, Dörbaum did not stand for election in 2012 because he wanted to retire. On July 1, 2012, Johannes Bruns succeeded him in office.

Even after retiring from politics, he is committed to the cultural life of his hometown and continues to be active in the traditional association Mühlhäuser Heimatfeste, which organizes the annual Mühlhausen fair , among other things . For his services during his tenure, he was made an honorary citizen of Mühlhausen on June 29, 2015 .
