Hans-Dieter Gelfert
Hans-Dieter Gelfert (born January 2, 1937 in Großenborau , Silesia ) is a German author and professor emeritus at the Free University of Berlin .
Life
Gelfert studied English, German and philosophy in Marburg , Edinburgh , London and Berlin . In 1970 he did his doctorate on symbolism under Charles Dickens , then worked at the Institute for English Philology, FU Berlin, before receiving an English professorship at the Berlin University of Education in 1975.
In 1980 he became professor for English literature and regional studies at the Free University of Berlin.
Since his retirement in 2000 he has lived as a freelance author and writes on the topics of comedy and humor , literary interpretation , kitsch , aesthetics , and above all on the cultural differences between Germany and the English-speaking world.
