Hans-Georg Rauch

Hans-Georg Rauch (born June 21, 1939 in Berlin , † December 23, 1993 in Worpswede ) was a German draftsman and graphic artist .

Rauch studied from 1961 to 1963 at the Hamburg University of Design . From 1965 he worked for various German and international newspapers such as Spiegel , Stern , Look, Observer and New York Times . His first book was published in 1969; many more followed. In 1970 he received the Heinrich Zille Prize for socially critical graphics .

In 1981 the Wilhelm Busch Museum in Hanover showed a review of his previous work. This and several subsequent exhibitions also ran in the USA, the Netherlands, Belgium, Canada, Hong Kong and the People's Republic of China. In 1987 Rauch was chosen as the international "Cartoonist of the Year".

Rauch's extensive work shows him as an extremely precise technician, precise observer and image finder with a high level of social awareness. He also drew attention to himself through his involvement in the peace movement .
