Hans-Helmut Münchberg (2014)

Hans-Helmut Münchberg (born December 19, 1948 in Apolda ) is a German local politician (formerly SED , then CDU , today non-party ). From 1990 to 1994 he was District Administrator of the Apolda district and, after the Thuringian district reform, from 1994 to 2018 District Administrator of the Weimarer Land district in Thuringia .

Life

After graduating from high school, Münchberg trained as a carpenter. Between 1967 and 1970 he trained as a rocket officer and electronics engineer with the NVA . His last rank was a lieutenant . In 1973 he was demoted and thus released from the NVA as a soldier. In addition, he was expelled from the SED for political reasons. After that he worked at the "VEB Thüringer Obertrikotagen Apolda" as an auxiliary electrician and later as a technician. Between 1979 and 1984 he acquired a degree in structural engineering via distance learning in Gotha. In 1988 Münchberg became a member of the CDU (GDR) block party . After the reunification he switched to the "VEB Zweckmode Apolda" as technical manager, where he worked until January 1st, 1990. On January 2, 1990, he took up the post of member of the Apolda District Council . He was responsible for the areas of "environmental protection / water management and recreation". Due to the difficult conditions and the time of upheaval in the GDR, the then district council obliged all council members to carry out their duties until a new election in the GDR.

Münchberg ran in the spring of 1990 on behalf of the CDU for the office of district administrator of the Apolda district. He received the majority of the trust. On February 4, 1994, Münchberg resigned from the CDU, since in September 1991 parts of the CDU parliamentary group had already submitted a motion of no confidence because of "insufficient implementation of CDU policy". In spite of this, Münchberg was re-elected as District Administrator of the Weimarer Land, which was formed in 1994 from the Apolda and Weimar-Land counties . In the local elections in Thuringia in 2018 , he was no longer allowed to run for reasons of age.

In the state election in Thuringia 2019 , Münchberg ran as a direct candidate in constituency 031 Weimar I / Weimarer Land II. He received 2,901 votes, which corresponded to 13.0% of the valid votes. So he was not elected to the state parliament.

Hans-Helmut Münchberg has been married since 1976, has three children and lives in Tiefengruben.

Controversy

On December 21, 2010, Münchberg published a comment in the official gazette of the Weimarer Land in which he approved the outcome of the popular initiative for the deportation of criminal foreigners in Switzerland and criticized what he believed to be an overly liberal immigration policy in Germany. His remarks were then criticized by Weimar Mayor Stefan Wolf, among others, as being polemical and causing dissatisfaction, especially since the proportion of foreigners in the Weimar region is below two percent and there is practically no crime among foreigners.

On his last day as district administrator, on June 30, 2018, he made a full-page statement on the title page of the official gazette on the " Joint Declaration 2018 ".
