Hans-Herbert Völker

Hans-Herbert Völker (born December 1, 1907 in Streckentin in Pomerania, † 1986 ) was a German classical archaeologist and librarian .

Life

Hans-Herbert Völker attended the Friedrich-Werdersche Gymnasium in Berlin. From 1927 to 1934 he studied classical archeology, art history and classical philology at the universities of Berlin and Munich . In 1935 he received his doctorate under Gerhart Rodenwaldt in Berlin. In addition to his studies, he temporarily represented the unscheduled assistant position at the Archaeological Seminar of the University of Berlin and was a research assistant at the German Archaeological Institute and the Berlin Collection of Antiquities . On April 1, 1934, he became an extraordinary assistant at the Archaeological Seminar of the University of Berlin. After the Second World War he was a librarian in the library of the State Museums in East Berlin. From 1959 until his retirement in 1974 he was head of the library of the Rome department of the German Archaeological Institute .
