Hans-Hermann Kath (born February 20, 1929 , † January 17, 1990 in Hamburg ) was a German politician ( independent ) and mayor of the city of Pinneberg from 1963 until his death in 1990 .

Life

Kath had been employed in the administration since 1957 and most recently as a magistrate, he took office as Mayor of Pinneberg on March 1, 1963, after he had been unanimously elected to succeed Henry Glissmann .

Kath was the mayor "who is probably the most mourned in Pinneberg", wrote the Pinneberger Zeitung 2018 under the heading "A tough dog with a caring hand". He was preceded by the reputation of a “doer”, which was characterized by a “compulsion to control”; he was described as “correct and straightforward”. The Pinneberger Tageblatt characterized him as "upright, hands-on and powerful".

His critics called him “Beton-Kath” due to urban development measures and accused him, among other things, of having been responsible for a “construction sin” with the ten million DM high bridge. This was inaugurated by Kath in August 1969 and renamed the Hans-Hermann-Kath-Brücke in August 2013 . The SPD had applied for the name of the traffic route to be changed in order to honor “the work” of the non-party former mayor “for the benefit of the city of Pinneberg”. According to the Pinneberger Zeitung , the city had "decisively changed" its face under Kath's leadership as mayor. During his tenure, the Pinneberg S-Bahn station was built in 1966, the former town hall in 1967 and 1968 and the indoor swimming pool in 1973, and the Rübekamptunnel and connecting road construction projects were also implemented.

He died of heart failure during his tenure.
