Hans-Jörg Karlsen

Hans-Jörg Karlsen (* 1973 as Hans-Jörg Nüsse ) is a German prehistorian .

Life

From 1994 to 1999 Karlsen studied prehistory and early history, ancient history , geology / paleontology and classical archeology at the Georg-August University of Göttingen , where he obtained his master's degree in prehistory and early history in 1999 and his doctorate in 2003 . In 2003 he led an excavation in Upleward , from 2003 to 2004 he was a research assistant at the Department of Prehistory and Protohistory at the University of Göttingen. From 2004 to 2010 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Prehistoric Archeology at the Free University of Berlin , where he completed his habilitation in 2011 and taught as a visiting professor from 2011 to 2016 . From 2012 to 2016 he was a research associate in the Topoi Cluster of Excellence . In 2016 he was appointed to the newly established Chair for Prehistory and Protohistory at the University of Rostock .

His main research interests are settlement archeology, social archeology and the period from the pre-Roman Iron Age to the early Middle Ages.
