Immo Heske (* 1969 ) is a German prehistoric archaeologist .

Career

Immo Heske studied at the Universities of Göttingen and Hanover . In 1999 he obtained his master's degree from the University of Göttingen, where he received his doctorate in 2004 with a thesis on the Hünenburg near Watenstedt . From 2004 to 2006 he was a research trainee in the Prehistory and Protohistory Department of the Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum in Wolfenbüttel , where he curated an exhibition on the history of the museum during the Nazi era . Since 2006 he has been working at the Department of Prehistory and Protohistory at the University of Göttingen.

Heske's research focuses on settlement archeology in the Bronze and Early Iron Ages , landfills in the Nordic Bronze Age , the prehistory of Northeast Europe and the history of research.

Since 1998 Immo Heske has been involved in excavations to research the Hünenburg near Watenstedt almost every year, initially as a student and later as excavation manager. In the vicinity of the Hünenburg he also examined other sites, such as the cemetery of Gevensleben , the circular moat of Watenstedt and the cemetery of Beierstedt . He conducts further research in Brandenburg in the area surrounding the royal grave of Seddin . In 2017 he became curator of the teaching collection of the seminar for prehistory and early history at the University of Göttingen. The activity includes teaching tasks and the implementation of educational excavations as well as exhibitions.
