Hans-Jürgen Dittfeld (born 1938 in Potsdam ) is a German science fiction author and physicist .

Life

Dittfeld studied physics from 1957 to 1962 at the Humboldt University in Berlin . After that he worked as a research assistant at the Stahnsdorf semiconductor plant . From 1967 he worked at the Central Institute for Earth Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR in Potsdam , where he mainly dealt with precision measurements of the earth's gravitational field . In 1972 he received his doctorate there with studies on the long-term behavior of gravimetric instruments . As a result, he published around 50 articles in scientific publications.

In 1975 Dittfeld published the first science fiction story in the series Das neue Abenteuer ( The New Adventure ) with spaceship “Neptun”, which deals with human loneliness and the different ways of dealing with it as part of a traditional space adventure . A year later, the short story Z17 followed in the anthology Encounter in Light , edited by Helmut Fickelscherer , a Pygmalion story in which a scientist fixated on his task, as in the legend, loses his creature, a resuscitated person who died in an accident, because he neither with his nor with his is able to deal with one's own feelings. In 1986 the story volume Landung in Targestan was published , which also includes Z17 . In the cover story, the protagonist, a pilot of a one-man spaceship who has alienated himself from humanity on long and actually senseless relativistic interstellar flights, fantasizes about a great reception on a strange planet and the achievement of a final destination, but in fact he lives through the moments of lonely death .

In addition to these fiction works, Dittfeld edited the anthologies of a circle of authors and published articles and poems in the press.
