Hans-Jürgen Schmahl
Hans-Jürgen Schmahl (born December 2, 1929 in Bargteheide ; † October 20, 2012 in Hamburg ) was a German economist .
Life
Hans-Jürgen Schmahl was born in 1929 as the son of a board member in Bargteheide near Hamburg. After graduating from the baccalaureate in 1949, he studied economics at the University of Hamburg and graduated there in 1954 with the Master of Economics from. In 1956 he received his doctorate there as Dr. rer. pole. Two years later he became an employee at the HWWA Institute for Economic Research . Here he was promoted to head of the business cycle department (1962), later to the main department head for general economic and business cycle policy (1967) and deputy head of the institute (1970). In 1987 he became vice president of the institute and remained so until 1994. From 1966 to 1973 Schmahl had a teaching position for economics at the University of Hamburg, in 1973 he was awarded the title of professor. In addition, from 1968 to 1976 he worked on the annual report of the German Advisory Council on the assessment of macroeconomic developments .
He had been married since 1956 and had two daughters and a son. In his private life he liked to read literature on contemporary history and was a member of the Verein für Socialpolitik .
Schmahl was a co-signer of the Euro-critical manifesto The Monetary Policy Decisions of Maastricht: A Danger for Europe (1992).

Hans-Jürgen Schmahl devoted himself in particular to
