Makoto Kawashima ( Japanese 川島 誠 , Kawashima Makoto ; born May 2, 1979 in Obihiro , Hokkaidō ) is a former Japanese ice hockey player who was under contract for most of his career with the Ōji Eagles in the Asia League Ice Hockey .

Career

At the beginning of his career as a hockey player, Makoto Kawashima played for Malmö IF for a year in the J20 SuperElit , the highest Swedish junior league. From 1999 the defensive player was under contract with the Ōji Eagles . In his first year in the Japanese Ice Hockey League , he was named Rookie of the Year . In 2002 and 2005 he won the Japanese championship with the team from Tomakomai . He won the Asia League Ice Hockey with his team in 2008 and 2012. In 2014 he ended his career.

International

For Japan Makoto Kawashima took part in the junior division of the 1997 Junior B World Championship . In the senior sector, he was part of his country's squad at the 2000 , 2001 , 2002 , 2003 and 2004 World Championships . After the Japanese were relegated from the top division, he was on the ice for his colors at the Division I tournaments in 2005 , 2009 , 2010 , 2012 and 2013 .

At the Winter Asian Games 2011 he won the silver medal with the Japanese team behind Kazakhstan . He also took part in qualifying for the 2010 Winter Olympics in February 2009 .
