Hans-Joachim Behrendt (born January 3, 1937 in Magdeburg ) is a German wood engraver and children's book illustrator .

life and work

Hans-Joachim Behrendt was born in Magdeburg in 1937. After graduating from high school in 1954 and working as an auxiliary lighting technician at the Magdeburg Theater , he studied graphics from 1955 to 1960 at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art . There he attended seminars by Werner Klemke , Arno Mohr , Paul Rosié and Klaus Wittkugel, among others . He then lived and worked as a freelance artist in and around Berlin . He has lived in Zingst since 1995 .

Behrend is one of the most prominent German wood engravers. Typical of him is the elaborate work with numerous finest Details.Behrendt illustrated children's books in addition to the opportunity graphics, bookplates and owners temple.
