The Hans-Mayer-Gesellschaft (HMG) is a cultural, political and literary society that was founded on June 10, 2018 in Berlin . It is a registered association and has its seat in the city of birth of Hans Mayer (1907-2001) in Cologne . Hans Mayer was the city of Cologne's first literary prize winner.

Foundation and goals

The company was founded in the ver.di Education and Meeting Center after a conference on the subject of "Revolutions and rebellions in the 20th century", which was organized by the ver.di Education and Meeting Center Clara Sahlberg , the Association of Writers (VS ) and the Talheimer Verlag.

The society cherishes the memory of Hans Mayer and also promotes the study of his work and literary political activity in an international context. The purpose of the association is to promote literature, science, art and culture in terms of a humane, democratic and socially just society.

Mindful of the enlightened humanistic thinking of Hans Mayer, the association advocates tolerance and against all forms of hatred, racism, fascism, neo-fascism, anti-Semitism, sexism and homophobia as well as xenophobia. It promotes, supports and cooperates with institutions and associations that are also committed to these goals.

The purpose of the statutes is particularly realized by

  • Research and publications aimed at the dissemination and understanding of the work of Hans Mayer,
  • Studies that research and present the life path of Hans Mayer at the places of his work, also with regard to the political impact,
  • interdisciplinary cooperation of various scientific disciplines that are affected by the work of Hans Mayer,
  • Lectures and exhibitions as well as colloquia and congresses that deal with the work of Hans Mayer and related questions.
