The Oriège is a mountain river in France that runs in the Ariège department in the Occitanie region . It rises in the Pyrenees , on the southeast flank of the summit Pic d'Étang Foury (2702 m), just north of the Regional Natural Park Pyrénées Catalanes , in the southwestern municipality of Orlu . The Oriège drains in an arc from northeast to northwest and flows into the Ariège as a right tributary after about 22 kilometers in the urban area of Ax-les-Thermes .
