1. EV Weiden (since 1987)

The Hans-Schröpf-Arena (until September 22, 2013 still ice stadium on Raiffeisenstraße ) is the ice stadium of the city of Weiden in the Upper Palatinate , which is mainly used by the 1st EV Weiden , who plays in the ice hockey league .

After construction began in 1985, the first ice hockey game took place before the official opening, on September 4, 1987. There, the newly founded ice hockey team of 1. EV Weiden met in front of 2,300 spectators on the then second division club SV Bayreuth and lost 1:19. The official opening with a large supporting program took place on September 15, 1987.

From February 7 to 10, 2013, the women's elimination tournament took place in Weiden as part of the qualification for the 2014 Winter Olympics . The German women's national ice hockey team won the tournament and qualified for the 2014 Winter Olympics .

Since September 23, 2013, the stadium has been named in honor of the former Lord Mayor of Weiden, Hans Schröpf . During his tenure, the ice rink was approved, planned and built.

In addition to the various ice hockey teams of the 1st EV Weiden, the stadium is also used by the club's figure skating department and the local ice stock club. The stadium also opens regularly for public ice skating. Occasionally, concerts are also held in the ice rink.

The stadium also has a covered free ice surface, which is 10 meters shorter and narrower than the hall surface. This is also in the summer months, u. a. used by the inline hockey team of the national league club Pleystein Piranhas, which play their home games there.
