Life

Hans-Werner Sahm grew up in Seeg / Allgäu . After some time in high school in Munich, he learned the profession of gravure retoucher and attended the Academy for the Graphic Arts in Munich.

From 1969 he worked in a research institute as a qualified documentary . To compensate for this, Sahm pursued his hobby, hang-gliding . He himself describes his motivation for this as follows: “It was a symbol of my desire for freedom. I wanted to break out into new worlds of experience. "

Sahm has been painting since he was young - later playing the saxophone. In 1978 he quit his job in the printing company and concentrated on his artistic work.

The German fantasy author Harald Evers was inspired by one of Shm's works for his cave world saga . Other Sahm pictures later served as inspiration for the locations of his stories. Several of the novels in the book series were provided with pictures by Sahm as cover illustrations.
