Hans Albrecht Freiherr von Maltzahn (born November 1, 1934 in Pinnow ) is a German polo player. He was the incumbent President of the German Polo Association from 1972 to 1980 and has been again since 2000 . In 2008 he was the oldest and most successful polo player in Germany for a lifetime .

Life

Hans Albrecht von Maltzahn was born in 1934 in a manor in Pinnow . He has been riding since early childhood. Until 1957, Hans Albrecht von Maltzahn managed a plant in Guatemala , traditionally a country of polo, and that's how he got into polo. He began his active polo playing career in Hamburg in 1960. This year he was the first German to import trained polo horses from Argentina . In the following twenty years he took part in polo tournaments with great success and many awards. a. in Windsor, Sotogrande (Spain), Paris, Barcelona, ​​Tehran, Buenos Aires, Hamburg, Munich, Berlin, Düsseldorf. He ended his active career as a polo player in 1980.

After 1990 he bought back the family property in Pinnow and Duckow and ran agriculture there. In 1998 he started playing polo again at the request of his nephews and founded the Pinnow polo club. Today he regularly participates in low goal tournaments with a current hcp 0 at the age of 70 , e.g. B. 2008 at the German Championship . Hans Albrecht von Maltzahn is active in promoting young talent in polo. The club he founded in 1997 organizes its own youth tournaments and is one of the most successful youth clubs in Germany.

Due to his commitment to the development of the sport of polo in Germany, he was appointed Ambassador by the Federation of International Polo (FIP) in 2005. The FIP Presidium honors outstanding personalities in the polo world with the title Ambassador. The main aim of the work of the FIP is to make polo an Olympic sport again. This was the last time in 1936 on the Berlin Maifeld.
