Hans Arnold (neurosurgeon)

Hans Arnold , also Hans-Richard Arnold, (born April 12, 1938 in Nordhausen ) is a German neurosurgeon .

Life

After graduating from high school in East Berlin and studying medicine (doctorate in 1967 at the Medical Academy in Erfurt ), Arnold went to West Germany in 1973 and worked at the Eppendorf University Medical Center. In 1982 he completed his habilitation. In the 1980s he became a professor at the University Clinic in Lübeck in 1986, where he set up and headed the neurosurgical university clinic. In 1996 he became Medical Director of the University Hospital Lübeck and from 1999 to 2002 he was Rector of the University of Lübeck .

He published on intracranial tumors, brain death , hydrocephalus and aneurysms , among others .

In 2014 he received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon. The charitable work of the Lübeck Children's Funding Association and the early help it initiated to promote language skills for children, particularly from migrant families and families in need of support, also contributed to this. In the same year he was honored with the commemorative medal of the Society for the Promotion of Charitable Activities .

He is co-editor of the book Neurosurgery in Germany (Blackwell 2001) on the history of German neurosurgery.

In 2006 he received the Wilhelm Tönnis Medal .
