Hans Bauer (economist)

Hans H. Bauer (* 1947 ) is a former German professor for business administration and marketing .

Career

Bauer studied from 1969 to 1973 at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg . From 1973 to 1980 he was research assistant to Erwin Dichtl , with whom he received his doctorate in 1979 at the University of Mannheim . His habilitation took place there in 1986. From 1987 to 1993 he held the chair for general business administration, especially marketing, at WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management . In September 1993 he moved back to Mannheim, where he was Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration from 2006 to 2010.

Plagiarism affair

In mid-February 2013, the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Business Administration was asked by a student to respond to an essay in an article by Bauer et al. published anthology. This essay was mostly about the student's master's thesis, who was not named as the author. Instead, the name of a former doctoral student appeared as a co-author, who, as it later turned out, had no significant role in the essay in question. The Dean's Office of the Faculty of Business Administration checked the documents submitted to it by the injured person and passed them on to the university ombudsperson on March 1, 2013 due to the urgent suspicion of plagiarism. The Standing Commission of the University of Mannheim then charged all those involved with scientific misconduct. Disciplinary proceedings against Bauer were not considered warranted as he was already retired. In contrast to his two willful employees, he was accused of gross negligence.
