Hans Baur (Manager)

Hans Baur (born February 14, 1929 in Plochingen ; † February 19, 2020 in Starnberg ) was a member of the Management Board of Siemens AG.

Baur completed a degree in engineering in Stuttgart . During his studies he joined the Stuttgart Wingolf in 1950 and the Munich Wingolf in 1961. His father Robert Baur ( dean in Böblingen ) and his brother Friedrich Baur were also active in Wingolf. Hans Baur , who has a doctorate in engineering, was responsible for communications technology on the board of the German technology group Siemens . Through the establishment and technological development of national and international communications networks, he has earned a reputation as a pioneer in technology and market development in this area. His main concerns included a. Digitization and switching technology ("Electronic voting system / digital" - EWS-D), packet switching and ISDN . Defense electronics was also part of his portfolio.

As an “expert in the field of communications”, Baur was also a member of the board of directors in the 1980s. H. to the supervisory body of the then state-owned company Deutsche Bundespost . In 1993 he was elected chairman of the supervisory board of Siemens-Nixdorf Informationssysteme AG and replaced Hermann Franz . In March 1994 he retired from the Siemens executive board.

In 2000, the Association of Electrical, Electronics and Information Technology (VDE) recognized Hans Baur's life's work with honorary membership, as he had set the course for the future of computer-controlled, electronic switching systems through his commitment. His brother Friedrich Baur was also a board member of Siemens AG.
