Hans Burkhardt (born October 23, 1904 in Würzburg ; † 1999 ) was a German psychiatrist, anthropologist, neurologist and writer.

Life

Burkhardt was born in Würzburg, his father was the surgeon Ludwig Burkhardt, his mother Margarete, geb. Schroeder. He attended the humanistic old grammar school (today Melanchthon grammar school) in Nuremberg. In 1923 he made his Abitur there. Then he began studying medicine in Würzburg; he received his doctorate in 1928 under Martin Reichardt as Dr. med. (Dissertation: "On the analysis of the optical-spatial disturbances in diffuse organic senile and presenile diseases of the brain"). Until 1929 he worked at the Psychiatric and Nervous Clinic of the University of Würzburg; from 1929 to 1932 at the State Psychiatric Hospital and the University Clinic Hamburg-Friedrichsberg; and from 1932 to 1934 at the Haldensleben State Psychiatric Hospital. From 1934 until his retirement in 1969 he was a senior doctor at the Schleswig State Psychiatric Hospital, where he headed the children's department from 1942 to 1945 .

1928 to 1945

In addition to his job as a psychiatrist, Burkhardt wrote books and essays. Hans Burkhardt was a supporter of racial theory and the racial hygiene that followed from it . He has been writing on this subject since 1930. In 1931 his book "Der rassenhygienische Gedanke und seine Basis" [The Race Hygiene Thought and Its Basics ] was published by Ernst Reinhardt Verlag . In connection with a work on " endogenous psychoses in Jews" in 1931, the connections between race and psychosis were to be further clarified by examining a False-Nordic group of mentally ill people who were selected to be 1. of Schleswig-Holstein descent and 2. had to have a number of specific anthropological features, whereby only those features were taken into account that do not overlap with features of the constitutional types introduced by Ernst Kretschmer . The result of the work was published like the "Study on Endogenous Psychoses in Jews" in the "Journal for the Entire Neurology and Psychiatry" under the title "Endogenous Psychoses in the Nordic Race". 1941 published Burkhardt in the anti-communist General Association of German associations related and anti-Semitic aligned Nibelungen publishing the book "The mental equipment of Nordic man" The book is published in the series Nordic research the Nordic Society had commissioned. The publisher is the Scandinavian Studies Association. Eberhard Taubert was the publishing director of Nibelungen Verlag . The Nordic Society published the magazine "Race - Monthly for the Nordic Thought", of which Burkhardt was the administrator. In 1979, Burkhardt left the Society for Biological Anthropology, Eugenics and Behavioral Research to publish an original manuscript from 1943, which had not been changed according to the editor. The text was originally supposed to appear in the second volume of a "Textbook of Psychology" to be published by Narcissus Ach in the Bamberg publishing house CC Buchner . However, as a result of the war, it could not appear.

1946 to 1999

In 1954 he published his book "The Adventure of Being Human". After retiring in 1969, he continued to write books. “All of his books deal with the situation of modern humans in a changed world. The author intends to bring buried truths about human beings back into focus, to uncover the whole being of human beings and to make one-sidednesses that deface human life aware. " (Blurb "Lost Reality")

“Like Erwin Chargaff or Hans Jonas , Burkhardt is a heretic of science. His aim is to bring up precisely that which is nowhere to be spoken in the ideological disputes. The ethics discussion is very topical. Progressive technocracy (progressive ability to do) means: Progress becomes naked pressure to act. Nothing remains of the happiness of mankind but construction and programming. An I that has become faceless only knows a faceless you. Neither of them understand the world anymore, because without imagination, without good faith and loyalty, without poetry and religion, one cannot understand the world.
