Hans Ritter called Döring (born around 1483 in Heustreu ; died 1558 ) was a German painter.

Döring was born around 1483 in Heustreu, Lower Franconia. Since his coat of arms shows a mill iron, he could come from a miller's family. In 1499, 1503 and 1511 we find him as a student in the Erfurt matriculation, in 1511 he was registered in Wittenberg.

His first secured painting was made in 1511, a self-portrait with the initials HD. Here in Wittenberg, Döring was Lucas Cranach the Elder's right-hand man until the middle of that decade . His second dated work is the depiction of Lucretia from 1514.

Döring probably took up residence in Wetzlar around 1518 , where he was later appointed mayor of the Marienstift in 1533 . Since his time in Hesse, he has fulfilled the role of a Nassau-Dillenburg and Solms court painter. Count Philipp von Solms-Lich himself studied in Mainz, Heidelberg and Erfurt and was a great patron of the arts when he met Döring in Wittenberg, presumably around 1515 as councilor to the electorate. He had z. B. have Albrecht Dürer portrayed. For the Marienkirche in Niederweidbach , donated by Philipp von Solms, Hans Döring painted the donation board with the portraits of the client's family and a self-portrait. There are also other pictures of Count Philipps from Döring. The production of a wooden model of the Nassau coat of arms for furnace plate casting is known from 1523.

Döring is also the illustrator of the writings of Count Reinhard von Solms-Lich, in particular the war book of 1559/60 with its mostly monogrammed woodcuts. Recently he has also been suspected of being a carver for wooden models of stove tiles. Döring died in 1558.
