Hans Freese (swimmer)
Johann Heinrich "Hans" Freese (born February 17, 1918 in Bremen , † July 8, 1941 in Kalisch) was a German swimmer and Olympic participant.
biography
Freese was a member of the Bremen Swimming Association from 1889 (BSV) and started for the Bremen Swimming Association.
Freese won the title of German champion over 400 meters freestyle in 1936 .
In 1936 he took part in the Olympic Games in Berlin , but could not qualify for the finals over 400 or 1500 meters freestyle.
He celebrated his greatest successes in 1938 at the European Championships in London , where he won the title in the 4 × 200 meter freestyle together with Wolfgang Heimlich , Werner Plath and Werner Birr . With a victory time of 9: 17.6 minutes, the team had exactly five seconds ahead of the second-placed French . In March 1938 Freese swam with the club relay from BSV together with Eduard Askamp , Hermann Heibel and Helmut Fischer in the Bremen Hanse-Bad the world record time of 4: 03.6 minutes.
Freese fell in 1941 in World War II on the Eastern Front with the rank of sergeant.
