Hans Frischmuth

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hans Frischmuth († after 1542) was a German printer at the time of the Reformation .

Life

Very little is known of Frischmuth. We know that he owned a printing works in the university town of Wittenberg from 1539 to 1540, in which various works were published. Apparently financial considerations compelled him to leave Wittenberg. He follows Justus Jonas to Halle (Saale) , where he apparently could not have worked for much longer.

No major works by him have come to light there. We certainly know that he printed Martin Luther's “Newe Zeitung vom Rein” in Halle , for which he was arrested. Luther wrote this as a mockery note and in it mocked the cult of relics by Albrecht of Brandenburg .
