Holger Bear

Holger Bär (* 1962 in Wuppertal ) is a German artist .

Life

Bär's first “digital paintings” were created during his studies at the University of Wuppertal from 1986 to 1989 with Michael Badura , painting department.

From 1987 to 1989 he planned and programmed his first painting machine. In 1994 a mobile, pneumatic robot was developed. 1996–1997 he developed a pneumatic painting machine with three separate brush heads. Bär worked on the development of six-legged autonomous small robots with "their own intelligence".

Digital painting

For many years, Holger Bär has been concerned with automating the creation process of painting. He relies entirely on the possibilities offered by robotics : His technology - "digital painting" - uses digital templates that are transferred to the canvas by machines he has developed - pixel by pixel. Like a monitor, his works of art are created from numerous pixels.

Holger Bär's artistic concept counteracts conventional artistic criteria such as painterly talent and craftsmanship. Already in the 20s with Duchamp and in the 60s with Andy Warhol a radical dewauratization of art took place. Holger Bär's pictures question the uniqueness of artistic authorship and have icons of everyday life as a common motif common to pop artists .

Holger Bär is a painter of the 21st century and expresses himself in this context with contemporary means. Personality and apparatus merge in his work. Contrary to what the high-tech process suggests, painterly expressive panel paintings (oil on canvas) are created with a “digital-pointillist” style and authentic recognizability.

Bär sees himself as a painter and creator of a contemporary painting technique. His formal approach leads strictly to his artistic content. In the context of today's communication age, the question of the truth of information and the interpretation of reality arises.
