Hans Höfer (soccer coach)

Hans Höfer (* March 20, 1911 ; † unknown) was a German football coach. In the 1950s he looked after in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football , Märkische Volksstimme Babelsberg , Chemie Leipzig , progress Meerane and Motor Zwickau .

Athletic career

When the company sports community (BSG) Märkische Volksstimme Babelsberg competed in the top soccer division of the East Zone for the first season of the newly founded DS-Liga (later GDR-Oberliga) in 1949/50 , it was trained by 38-year-old Hans Höfer. He also played as a player in two point games. In the 1950/51 season, Höfer only worked as a coach for Babelsberg until the 25th league game. He then helped out for seven match days at the top division chemistry Leipzig. At the beginning of the second half of the season 1951/52 Höfer took over the training of the league team from progress Meerane. This was at this point in a relegation zone, and Höfer was unable to prevent relegation. In the following season 1952/53 Höfer led the Meeraner back into the league, where they reached a secure 10th place under his leadership in 1953/54. Nevertheless, Höfer moved to Motor West Karl-Marx-Stadt for the 1954/55 season . The team had just been promoted to the second-rate GDR league , and Höfer made sure that they managed to stay in the league with seventh place among fourteen teams. Subsequently, Oberligist Motor Zwickau secured the services of Höfer. This was taken over by the team as early as the fall of 1955 in the transition round to switch to the calendar season. In his first two seasons, Höfer reached tenth place with the Zwickauer. The soccer team of the sports club was relegated from the league in the previous season and was already in acute danger of relegation in the GDR league. Höfer was no longer able to avert relegation, and so he coached the Karl-Marx-Städter in 1959 in the third-class 2nd GDR league . There he managed to get promoted again immediately, but only trained the team in the GDR league season in 1960 until the end of the first half of the season. In the 1961/62 season (return to the summer-spring rhythm of the game) Höfer was the coach of the SC Traktor Schwerin soccer team in the 2nd GDR League, and in 1964/65 he coached the GDR league promoter Chemie Riesa , with whom he followed one year also relegated to the third division. After that, Höfer did not return to the higher leagues.
