Hans Hansen Kaad (born August 28, 1891 in Lamberg , † October 25, 1964 in Guderup ) was a German veterinarian .

Live and act

Hans Hansen Kaad had a father of the same name (1864–1902) who was married to Christine Marie, née Brock (1865–1946). The ancestors of the farming family lived on Als and in Sundewitt . He attended the elementary school in Augustenburg and the upper secondary school in Sønderborg , which he left with the Abitur in 1912. He then studied veterinary medicine at the veterinary universities in Hanover and Dresden . After graduating as Dr. med. He studied human medicine for a semester at the University of Kiel and had to break off his studies due to the outbreak of the First World War .

Kaad did military service from 1915 to 1918. He ran a hospital for horses and gained extensive experience and carried out numerous operations. After the state examination in 1919, he worked in Guderup as a resident veterinarian. In 1915 he opened a self-designed and constructed horse clinic with an operating table, with which he became known in Germany and Denmark. He trained regularly in Hanover and from 1920 in Copenhagen .

Kaad continuously received applications from prospective veterinarians at the Danish Veterinary University, who trained here as assistants. Since he was educated in Germany and was considered German-minded, he received no professional aid for a year after the end of the Second World War , which meant he was largely isolated. In addition, there were structural changes in the agricultural use of animals, due to which he had to realign the practice several times.

In addition to his own studies, Kaad looked after German students living in North Schleswig who were attending a Danish university. Kaad helped them pass the Danish state examination. To this end, he founded an academic circle of friends and an old man's association, which he led. They supported the “Association of Schleswig Students” (VSSt) at the University of Copenhagen and maintained relations with Northern Schleswig.

Kaad was married to Gertrud Matthiesen (* 1889). The couple had their son Hans, who continued their father's practice, and two daughters.
