Sundeved ( German  Sundewitt ) is a peninsula in North Schleswig in southern Denmark . It lies between the Aabenraa Fjord ( German  Apenrader Förde ), the Als Fjord , the Als Sund ( German  Alsensund ) and the Flensburg Fjord , its bays Nybøl Nor ( German  Nübeler Noor ) and Wemmingbund as well as the Broager peninsula ( German  Broacker ). The land border to the west is not defined. While some only equate the historical Harde Nybøl Herred in the east with the landscape, others consider the entire landscape up to the line Aabenraa - Flensburg as Sundeved.

The Sundeved is part of the eastern hill country of the Cimbrian Peninsula and shows a typical moraine landscape with loamy, fertile soils. There are cliffs in some places. The most impressive scenic part are the Dybbøler heights ( German  Düppeler heights ) in the southeast near the Alssund. However, these are primarily known because of the Battle of Düppel on April 18, 1864 during the second war for the Duchy of Schleswig .

The Sundeved originally mentioned in King Waldemar's 1231 earth book included the later parish communities ( Danish : Sogn ) Broager Sogn (as mentioned, also viewed as a separate peninsula), Nybøl Sogn ( German Nübel ), Dybbøl Sogn , Sottrup Sogn ( German Satrup in Sundewitt ), Gråsten-Adsbøl Sogn ( German Gravenstein-Atzbüll ), Ullerup Sogn ( German Ulderup ), Varnæs Sogn ( German Warnitz ), Rinkenæs Sogn ( German Rinkenis ), Holbøl Sogn ( German Holebüll ), Kværs Sogn ( German Quars ), Felsted Sogn ( German Feldstedt ) and parts of the Kliplev Sogn ( German Klipleff ).

Two years before the Danish municipal reform in 1970 , the name of the landscape reappeared on the political map when the parishes Nybøl Sogn, Satrup Sogn and Ullerup Sogn merged to form Sundeved Municipality in 1968 . Since the next municipal reform in 2007 , most of the landscape has been part of Sønderborg Municipality , the western municipalities are part of Aabenraa Municipality .
