William Mayne

William James Carter Mayne (born March 16, 1928 in Hull , Yorkshire , † March 24, 2010 in Thornton Rust , Yorkshire) was an English children's author who also used the pseudonyms Martin Cobalt and Dynely James .

Life

Mayne attended the Choir School at Canterbury Cathedral and later taught at Deakin University and Rolle College. He wrote more than 100 books, of which Follow the Footprints was his debut novel in 1953. His book A Swarm in May was made into a film and Earthfasts was broadcast on the BBC as a five-part television film in 1994 .

In 2004, William Mayne was imprisoned for two and a half years after admitting he had committed multiple offenses to children between 1960 and 1975.
