Hans Hingst (prehistoric)

Hans Hingst (born August 21, 1908 in Ahrenlohe , † December 13, 1996 in Schleswig ) was a German prehistoric scientist .

Live and act

Hans Hingst was born on August 21, 1908 in Ahrenlohe in Holstein (today a district of Tornesch , Pinneberg district ). From 1929 to 1935 he worked as a school teacher. The study of prehistory and early history at the University of Kiel followed with a doctorate from 1934 to 1939. In 1940 Hingst became an assistant at the State Office for Prehistory and Early History of Schleswig-Holstein, in 1954 scientific council and in 1962 senior councilor. On August 31, 1974, he retired as deputy head of the State Office (today: Archaeological State Office Schleswig-Holstein ).

His research focus was the archeology of the pre-Roman Iron Age in northwest Germany . In addition to the monographs mentioned below, he published numerous specialist articles and find reports, mainly in the journal Offa . Reports and communications on prehistory, early history and medieval archeology .

Hingst was married to Ruth Senta Hingst geb. Poppendieck (1913-1996).
