Hans Hoebel

Hans Hoebel (born April 4, 1877 in Lüneburg , † December 19, 1966 in Münster ) was a German hydraulic engineer.

Career

Hoebel was born in Lüneburg as the son of the hydraulic engineer Theodor Hoebel . He followed his father and studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Munich and the TH Hannover . Then entered the service of the Prussian hydraulic engineering administration. He worked in the directorates in Hanover and Essen: later he took over the management of the new building office in Hanau. On October 1, 1920, he was brought to the hydraulic engineering department of the Prussian Ministry of Public Works in Berlin, and on April 1, 1921, he moved to the Reich Ministry of Transport with the rank of Ministerialrat . After the end of the Second World War, in April 1946 he was appointed to the General Directorate for Waterways and Inland Shipping in the British Zone of Occupation in Bielefeld. Later he took over the waterways department at the Administration for Transport of the United Economic Area in Offenbach. In this role, despite the difficult circumstances, he built up a new sovereign administration of the waterways. As its director, he was appointed Ministerialdirektor on March 10, 1948 . After the establishment of the Federal Republic of Germany, his department was taken over as the water and shipping administration in the business area of ​​the Federal Ministry of Transport . Hoebel retired on June 30, 1949.

He was a co-founder and longtime editor of the journal Die deutsche Wasserwirtschaft . In 1948 he re- founded water management . Until September 30, 1957 he was its chief editor.

Honors

In recognition of his outstanding scientific and creative work for the German water industry, in particular for the technical design and expansion of the Bavarian waterways, the Technical University of Munich made him an honorary doctorate in 1950. On the occasion of his 75th birthday in 1952 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit .
