Hans Jürgen Neusser

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hans Jürgen Neusser (born November 20, 1943 in Troppau ) is a German physical chemist ( molecular spectroscopy , laser spectroscopy ).

Neusser grew up in Munich and studied physics at the Technical University of Munich , where he received his doctorate in physics in 1971 under Wolfgang Kaiser (a pioneer in laser spectroscopy). He then built up laser spectroscopy in the physical chemistry department (headed by Edward W. Schlag ). In 1977 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on two-photon laser spectroscopy on molecules in the gas phase. In 1979 he became a university professor and in 1988 an associate professor at the Technical University of Munich. From 2000 to 2004 he was temporarily on Chair 1 for Physical Chemistry.

He deals with laser spectroscopy (ultra-high resolution UV laser spectroscopy, coherent laser spectroscopy, spectroscopy of molecular Rydberg states and molecular ions, etc.), multi-photon processes such as ionization of molecules and weakly bound clusters, intramolecular dynamics and kinetics of fast dynamic processes, for example distribution of energy and charge in photochemical reactions.

In 1983 he received the Chemistry Prize from the Göttingen Academy of Sciences .
