Hans Jürgen Sonnenberger

Hans Jürgen Sonnenberger (born December 14, 1933 in Dessau ) is a German legal scholar . From 1986 to 2002 he was full professor for civil law , commercial law , comparative law and international private law , as well as foreign law and Franco-German comparative law at the LMU Munich .

Life

Sonnenberger was born in Dessau in 1933. From 1952 he studied theology and philosophy in Halle and Erfurt, and since 1955 philosophy and German at the University of Munich. From 1956 he studied law in Munich and graduated in 1960 with the first state examination. He got a job as a research assistant at Murad Ferid in Munich and received his doctorate a year later with the work The Significance of the Basic Law for German International Private Law. The second state examination in law followed in 1964. From 1967 onwards, he undertook research stays in Pavia, Aix-en-Provence, Liège and Leiden as a DFG scholarship holder.

In 1969, Sonnenberger completed his habilitation with Murad Ferid with a paper on traffic manners in the contract of obligations - a comparative legal contribution to the doctrine of legal sources . He received his first professorship at the University of Augsburg , where he taught until 1986. In 1986 he accepted a call to Munich as the successor of Murad Ferid to the chair for civil law, commercial law, comparative law and international private law, as well as foreign law, German-French comparative law , where he worked until his retirement on April 1, 2002. Sonnenberger was visiting professor at the universities of Aix-en-Provence (1984, 1988, 1999), Bordeaux (1994), Paris (1993), Ferrara and Verona.
