Hans Juretschke

Hans Juretschke (born September 11, 1909 in Iburg ; † June 16, 2004 in Madrid ) was a German Romance studies , Hispanic , German studies and historian who worked in Spain.

life and work

Juretschke studied from 1929 in Heidelberg, Dijon, Bonn, Madrid and Oxford. After the handover of power to the National Socialists , he became a member of the SA . He received his doctorate in 1937 at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn under Ernst Robert Curtius with the thesis The image of France of modern Spain (Spanish: España ante Francia , Madrid 1940, with a preface by Antonio Tovar ) and went in the autumn of 1939 to 1941 as a lecturer for German to Madrid. From 1942 to 1945 he was a research assistant in the cultural department of the embassy of the Third Reich and, together with Theodor Heinermann, edited the journal Boletín bibliográfico .

From 1941 Juretschke had a teaching position for German literary history at the University of Complutense. From 1963 until his retirement in 1979 he was associate professor there for this subject, as well as director of the Instituto Germano-Español de Investigación of the Görres Society (as whose secretary he had been since 1958).

Juretschke had been a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Arminia Heidelberg since 1929 .
