Alberto Rodríguez de Lista y Aragón (born October 15, 1775 in Seville , † October 5, 1848 in Seville) was a Spanish mathematician , poet , writer and literary critic .

Life

Don Alberto Lista y Aragon studied at the University of Seville , received the chair of philosophy at the College of San Isidoro in Seville in 1803, that of the beautiful sciences in 1806 and became professor of rhetoric and poetics at the university there in 1807.

Fled during the French invasion, he returned to his fatherland in 1817, where he was employed as a teacher at the Bilbao Academy the following year .

From 1820 he edited the magazines in Madrid: El Censor and El Imparcial , and from 1828 in Bayonne the Gaceta de Bayona . He published the Estafeta de San Sebastian in 1830 and, after both newspapers were suppressed, took over the editing of the Gaceta de Madrid in 1833 until he was appointed professor of higher mathematics at the University of Madrid in 1837 .

In 1838 he resigned from this office to take over the leadership of the College of San Felipe Neri in Cádiz , which he led until 1840.

“Lista was one of the greatest among modern Spanish poets; with a rich imagination and deep feeling he combined a fine taste and a genuinely philosophical outlook on life. In the history of modern Spanish poetry, he is unsurpassed in the history of modern Spanish poetry in terms of perfection in form and expression, in particular in the grace of the verse structure. ”His Poesías appeared in Madrid in 1822; it was also included in the Biblioteca de autores españoles , vol. 67.

  • Historia Universal , an adaptation of Ségurs Histoire universelle continued to the most recent times;
  • Lecciones de literatura dramatica española esplicadas en el Ateneo Cientìfico, Literario y Artístico (Madrid 1839) and
  • Ensayos literarios y críticos (Seville 1844, 2 vols.).

He also wrote a supplement to Juan de Marianas and José Manuel Minanas Historia de España (Madrid 1828).
