Hans Kämper

Hans Kämper (born February 26, 1949 in Kamp-Lintfort ) is a German jazz trombonist and composer. He has been one of the outstanding German protagonists of his instrument since the 1970s.

Life

Kämper studied trombone and guitar at the University of the Arts in Bremen .

In the 1970s he was a member of " Annexus Quam ", a legendary Krautrock band. The band is considered to be the first German rock combo to play live in Japan.

Kämper played in numerous other bands such as "Jazzcomponium" and "Quartett & Brass". The latter existed for around 20 years, was internationally recognized, and produced several CDs, always with compositions by Kämper. He also played with Gunter Hampel , Albert Mangelsdorff , Craig Harris , Günter Sommer and Perry Robinson .

Kämper taught for 25 years at the University of Bremen and the University of the Arts in Bremen. In addition, he taught for over 40 years at the Delmenhorst Municipal Music School, where he headed the Jazz & Pop department. In 1989 he founded the Delmenhorst Jazz Festival and was its artistic director until 2007. He has always been able to win international jazz greats for the Jazz Festival.

He currently plays in the trombone quartet tb4 and the hcl ensemble. In addition, he has been leading the big band Jazz Invaders for over 30 years , which has attracted attention nationally and also at performances abroad. With his formation Slide Movements Orchestra , which included eight trombonists, he presented an album on Laika Records in 2003 .
