Hans Kerp

Hans Kerp (born September 11, 1954 in Venlo ) is a Dutch paleobotanist . He is a professor at the University of Münster .

Kerp studied geology and palaeobotany at the University of Utrecht until 1980 and received his doctorate in 1986 on the genus Callipteris (order Peltaspermales ) from the Rotliegend . As a post-doctoral student he was an assistant in Utrecht until 1991 and at the University of Pennsylvania in 1989/90 . In 1991 he became professor of palaeobotany in Münster as successor to Winfried Remy .

He dealt with the flora of the Paleozoic and Early Mesozoic Era, especially from the point of view of paleoecology, paleobiology and paleogeography and with fossil cuticles.

From 1990 to 2000 he was editor of the newsletter of the international sub-commission for Triassic Stratigraphy (Albertiana) and the Review of Palaeobotany and Palynology. In 1995 he became chairman of the working group on paleobotany and palynology.
