SOS The Island of Tears is a German silent film drama from the year 1923. Under the direction of Lothar Mendes play Lya de Putti and Paul Wegener , the leading roles.

Lilian Harding gets into distress during a boat trip and is shipwrecked. Stranded on an island, the sailor Jack is her only companion. Jack, a coarse, hulking, and uncouth chunk, raped her one day. When both are later rescued and Lilian wants to start a new life at the side of a captain, whom she finally marries, the unscrupulous sailor uses his knowledge of her innocence, which has been lost through his act of violence, and blackmails her as well. Lilian soon sees no other way out than to seek suicide when she receives help from an undreamt-of source when some of Jack's cronies kill him.
Production notes
SOS The Island of Tears passed the film censorship on October 8, 1923 and was premiered on November 1, 1923 in Berlin's Alhambra. The five-act film was 1832 meters long and was banned from young people. In Austria, the strip started on September 12, 1924.
Walter Reimann designed the film structures that Fritz Lück carried out. For Wegener's wife at the time, Lyda Salmonova , this was the last film role.
criticism
In Paimann's film lists it can be read: “The subject is, even if it is very dark and very realistic, nonetheless worked extremely grippingly, the presentation is excellent, the photos are very good. Imposing sea images deserve special mention. "
