Karl Vass
Karl Vass (born June 20, 1896 in Rabča , † October 3, 1953 in Budapest ; born Károly Vass ) was a Hungarian cameraman .
Life
After training in photography in Budapest, he worked as a photographer from 1913. In 1914 he became a subordinate cameraman for Hungarian film. After being called up for military service, in the last year of the war in 1918, he shot his first film as head cameraman in a Budapest studio.
In October 1919 he left Hungary and went first to Vienna and in August 1920 to Berlin. He was able to continue his career as a cameraman in German film. In 1926 he was in Japan and China with Emil Schünemann while filming the adventure films Die Frau ohne Namen und Liebe in a frenzy behind the camera.
In the age of talkies, Vass was mostly only used for documentaries in Germany. He belonged to the staff of cameramen that Leni Riefenstahl commanded when recording the Triumph of Will and the Olympics . He then returned to Hungary and worked there as a cameraman until 1944.
