Rabča (Hungarian Rabcsa ; older also Rapcsa ) is a large municipality in Okres Námestovo within Žilinský kraj in Slovakia .
The place is located in the Podbeskydská vrchovina mountains in the Beskids on the Polhoranka river , between the Babia hora mountain in the northwest and the Arwa reservoir about ten kilometers to the south . The city of Námestovo is ten kilometers to the south.
Rabča was first mentioned on a map as Rapcia in 1550 and four years later it is designated as a Wallachian village. Because of its location on a royal road to Poland and its proximity to the border, the place was plundered or even burned down several times, around 1604. In 1608, the Thurzo family therefore had to resettle the village . The population dealt with cattle and sheep breeding, timber industry, weaving and agriculture, which, however, was not very productive due to non-fertile soils and climatic conditions.
The Goral dialect is still spoken by the local population, especially the elderly .
Rabča has been a twin town of the Hessian community of Wölfersheim in the north of Frankfurt since 2012 .
