Krušetnica (German Kruschenitz , Hungarian Krusetnica ) is a municipality in the far north of Slovakia with 961 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and belongs to the Okres Námestovo within the Žilinský kraj .
geography
The village is located in the Podbeskydská vrchovina mountains at the confluence of the Biela Orava and the Klinianka brook . The municipality is mountainous with wide ridges cut through by deep stream valleys. The slopes are steep and often deforested. The center of the village is at an altitude of 656 m nm and is 15 kilometers from Námestovo .
Neighboring communities are Novoť and very briefly Mútne in the north, briefly Beňadovo in the northeast, Breza in the east, Vasiľov and Hruštín (via the district Vaňovka ) in the south, Lomná in the southwest and Zákamenné in the west.
history
The place was established at the end of the 16th century under Wallachian law and was first mentioned in writing in 1580 as Krussecznycza ; other sources only give the year 1593 (as Kruscecznycza ). It belonged to the estate of the Arwaburg and was administered by inheritors. In 1624 the village had about 90 inhabitants and was devastated during the constant Kuruzzen uprisings of the 17th and early 18th centuries. In 1778 Krušetnica had 390 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 121 houses and 820 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture and as craftsmen.
The place in Arwa County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then became part of Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic, the inhabitants were also known as weavers and basket makers.

According to the 2011 census, 938 people lived in Krušetnica, 915 of them Slovaks and two Czechs. 21 residents gave no information in this regard. 901 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, two residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident to the Congregational Church. Six residents had no denomination and 28 residents had no denomination.
