Beňadovo (Slovak 1927-1946 "Benadovo" - until 1927 "Beňadov"; Hungarian Benedikó ) is a municipality in the far north of Slovakia with 895 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and belongs to the Okres Námestovo within the Žilinský kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the Podbeskydská vrchovina mountainous region , in a small basin created by the Beňadovský creek , near the state border with Poland . The center of the village is at an altitude of 780 m nm and is 20 kilometers from Námestovo .
Neighboring communities are Mútne in the north, Oravské Veselé in the northeast, Oravská Jasenica in the east, Lokca in the southeast, Breza in the south and Krušetnica in the west.
history
Beňadovo was created around the middle of the 17th century when shepherds and lumberjacks from Ťapešovo settled on pastures . The first name, Polanky Tyapessowske (about "pastures of Ťapešovo") indicates the original territory, in 1677 the name Benedikowa was recorded. The newly founded village was part of the Arwaburg estate and was administered by elected judges. In 1828 there were 68 houses and 366 inhabitants who were employed as lumberjacks, farmers and cattle keepers.
The place in Arwa County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then became part of Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Beňadovo had 772 inhabitants, including 767 Slovaks . Five residents gave no information about their ethnicity .
764 residents professed their support for the Roman Catholic Church. One resident confessed to a different denomination and seven residents did not determine their denomination.
