The Occidental Quarterly (German: Abendländisches Vierteljahresheft ) is a right-wing political magazine based in Atlanta in the US state of Georgia , which is assigned to the Alt-Right . It was founded in 2001 by William H. Regnery and is published by the Charles Martel Society . Since October 2007 it has also been published as an online magazine ; connected is the Occidental Observer news site . The magazine publishes articles on the topics of racism and anti-Semitism as well as against the immigration of people who do not come from Western cultures.

Charles Martel

Charles Martel on behalf of the publishing company refers to Karl Martel who defeated the Muslim Arabs and Berbers in 732 at the Battle of Tours and Poitiers and allegedly stopped their advance. Karl Martell was declared the savior of the west in the 19th century , which can not be proven based on current research .

Political ideas

For the editors of the Occidental Quarterly , the West rests on its ancient, Christian, and Germanic past. The United States is part of the West, a unique and non-exchangeable historical development with specific racial, historical and cultural identities.

The 2003 Occidental Quarterly Policy Statement contains the following key political messages:

  • Race builds culture. Culture is the prerequisite for identity and integrity.
  • Only people of European ancestry should be able to immigrate to the United States.
  • The political and personal freedom of US law, including freedom of expression and association, is endangered by ethnic and ideological enemies and must be protected.
  • The political influence of other states such as Israel and Mexico on the politics of the United States should be rejected.

Political conception

The publishers and editors of the magazine see themselves as part of the US Conservatives in accordance with their policy statement from 2003. They see themselves as the third school that developed out of paleoconservatism and neoconservatism .

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center , Occidental Quarterly aims to defend the cultural, ethnic and racial interests of Western European peoples and examine current political, social and demographic developments in terms of their impact on the descendants of Western civilization.

The historian Tony Taylor describes the magazine as "a far-right racially obsessed US Magazine" (German: "a far-right (located), obsessed, racist US magazine"). David Frum assigned the journal to unpatriotic Americans and called it “pseudo-scholary” (German: “pseudo-scientific”) and Max Blumenthal as “pseudo-academic” (German: “pseudo-academic”)
