Sihelné (Hungarian Szihelne ) is a municipality in the far north of Slovakia with 2161 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and belongs to the Okres Námestovo within the Žilinský kraj .
geography
The village is located in the Beskydy Mountains in the eastern part of the Podbeskydská brázda furrow on the Sihelniansky creek under Babia hora ( 1723 m nm ) in the traditional Orava landscape . The Polish border runs north of the town . The center of the village is at an altitude of 710 m nm and is 15 kilometers from Námestovo .
history
Sihelné was founded in 1629 by the Nováčik brothers from the neighboring town of Rabča , after they received the founding deed at the Arwaburg . The local parish was established in 1706. In 1828 there are 178 houses and 965 inhabitants who were engaged in forestry, agriculture, livestock farming and linen weaving.
